Background of the Summit & Exhibition

This year under the theme “Vatsonga, contributing towards Social Cohesion, integrating nations beyond the borders” on the 1STand 2nd September 2017 at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand we will be hosting our first /launch of the Tsonga Summit and Formal Dinner. The Tsonga summit was born from an ongoing discussion among numerous Vatsonga communities on how they can ensure their Identity as an ethnic group is continued & guaranteed for generations to come, especially through tracing their roots & heritage, strengthening their Cultures & traditions that are slowly losing their way in South African society today, as well as demystify the popular myths that surround the Vatsonga. It is also a great fusion of a celebration of Heritage and Culture that is deep rooted in the African continent.

About the Ndhavuko -Makomba Ndlela

The Organisation’s mission, goals and objectives is to support, assist, develop and improve the quality of Vatsonga speaking culture, language and tradition and in so doing indirectly contributing to the development of society and eradicate poverty. To raise financial and material resources for efficient and effective sustainability and preservation of VaTsonga language, culture and tradition; and to develop and help maintain active learning through self-enrichment, career development and role modeling of Vatsonga language, culture and tradition. To promote social cohesion with other cultures and traditions in Africa.

Objective of the Summit and Exhibition

The VaTsonga Summit and Exhibition is the promotion of the Tsonga language and identity as one of the official languages that has a rich & fascinating history. The Summit will offer the Tsonga speaking people an opportunity a platform for a dialogue to deliberate on how they want to be called or identified. The summit will also showcase excellence within the Tsonga community through Tsonga sounds, tastes, crafts, fashion, music and dance. The Exhibition will be a promotion of Tsonga business inspired products (Bags, T-shirts, Music, Xibelana, Micheka and Wedding attire inspired by Micheka). The Documentation and the Tsonga Story (Book, DVD, TV documentary and online platform). An opportunity to explore on how other opportunities can be natured or supported, especially regarding language promotion and preservation. The Tsonga community in South Africa and neighboring countries will discuss and share ideas of strengthening the VaTsonga identity.

The idea is to have many Tsonga businesses and people coming into Johannesburg from Limpopo province and neighbouring countries as well as tourist coming to view the showcase of products and services, making the event a melting pot of Tsonga Culture, Food, Music and most of all encourage Intra Tsonga Trade, contributing towards Social Cohesion & integrating Vatsonga Identity beyond borders.
